Kinshasa, March 30th, 2026 (CPA).– Cultural ties between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Jamaica, rooted in strong musical and cultural links, were highlighted ahead of the final of the 2026 World Cup intercontinental playoffs in Guadalajara, Mexico, by a Congolese music analyst contacted Monday by CPA. “The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Jamaica, despite their geographical distance, share fascinating cultural similarities. One of the main similarities lies in their rich musical tradition,” said Georges Kinga Diyinda. “The DRC is renowned for its Congolese rumba, while Jamaica is famous for reggae and dancehall. These musical genres share a strong emphasis on rhythm and meaningful lyrics, often conveying social and political messages,” he added. According to him, dance is also an integral part of culture in both countries. “In the DRC, traditional dances such as rumba and ndombolo are very popular, while Jamaica is known for energetic dances like dancehall and reggae. These dances are often performed during celebrations and gatherings, thereby strengthening community ties,” the analyst explained. He further stressed that African influence is evident in both cultures. “Jamaica has been strongly influenced by African culture through slavery and immigration, while the DRC, as a Central African country, has a culture deeply rooted in African traditions. This influence is reflected in cultural practices, beliefs and traditions in both countries,” he elaborated. “Culinary creativity is another area where similarities are striking. Both countries have rich and diverse cuisines, with traditional dishes such as *fufu* and “saka-saka” in the DRC, and “jerk chicken” and “ackee and saltfish” in Jamaica. These dishes are often prepared during celebrations and gatherings, reinforcing social bonds,” he concluded, noting that “community spirit is very important in both cultures. Family and social ties are strong, and celebrations are often occasions for joyful gatherings.” The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Jamaica will face each other in the final of the 2026 World Cup intercontinental playoffs on March 31st, 2026, at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico. The stakes are high: the winner of this match will secure one of the last two tickets to the 2026 World Cup and join Group K, alongside Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan.
