Kinshasa, April 30th, , 2026 (CPA).– The song “Family,” the result of a collaboration between Congolese singers Lokua Kanza and Fally Ipupa, stands out for its refined acoustic arrangement and its social message calling for love and family solidarity, CPA learned Monday in an interview. “The message itself calls for a certain calm. And Fally’s talent blended in seamlessly; being a very good singer, he has this natural ability to adapt,” said Lokua Kanza, referring to a smooth musical collaboration. Beyond its sound, the work addresses a universal theme related to expressing feelings toward loved ones while they are still alive. “His reaction was natural, and I think it is a theme that speaks to all of us, unless one is insensitive,” he explained, highlighting Fally Ipupa’s spontaneous adherence to the depth of the lyrics. On the visual level, the “Family” video favors a simple staging focused on everyday life so as not to distract from the main message. “Indeed, I wanted a simple, everyday-life scenario to convey the message with more sobriety and humility,” he said. This collaboration is also seen as a bridge between generations in Congolese music. The artist, however, downplayed his status as a mentor figure.
“‘Wise’ is saying a lot—an elder brother, yes, even a father given our ages. This duo is rather a generational bridge,” he stated, emphasizing the complementarity between experience and modernity. Nearly ten years after its release, the song continues to convey a strong and timeless message. “My collaboration with Fally is a sign that art has no boundaries. However, I am very proud of the new generation, which works hard to surpass itself,” he concluded, praising the evolution and artistic commitment of Congolese youth. A songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Lokua Kanza is internationally recognized for his afro-folk style, blending acoustic sounds with diverse cultural influences. Singing in several languages, including French, English, Swahili and Lingala, he promotes an artistic vision based on the universality of emotions. In his philosophy, each language carries a unique vibration that enriches the musical message.
