DRC-Linafoot: Motema Pembe and Maniema Union draw (1-1) in Group B

Kinshasa, November 5th, 2025 (CPA). – Motema Pembe of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Maniema Union of Kindu, in the centre-east of the country, drew 1-1 on Wednesday at the Tata Raphaël stadium in an early match of the 7th day of Group B of the National Football League (Linafoot). This evenly matched game, part of the 31st edition of the DRC national championship, had three highlights.

The first highlight came when AS Maniema Union opened the scoring through their centre forward, Sylva Tshitenge (15th minute), a transfer from AC Rangers of Kinshasa. The second highlight came when Motema Pembe, who was not going to take this lying down, reacted, albeit a little late, with an equalising goal from Glody (38th minute), a former player of FC Renaissance du Congo and AS V.Club. This defender was, moreover, voted ‘Man of the Match’. With the score at 1-1, the referee sent the two teams back to the dressing rooms. The second half of the match saw only one highlight, a penalty awarded to the Faucons de Kinshasa following a rough foul by the Unionistes goalkeeper on an Imanien striker in the penalty area. Called upon to take the penalty for Motema Pembe, Bingi Belo (73rd) saw his powerful shot saved by the AS Maniema Union goalkeeper, who was well positioned to make the save. The Immaculés de Kinshasa missed the perfect opportunity to take the lead on the scoreboard. Unable to secure a victory, both DC Motema Pembe and AS Maniema Union had to settle for a point from the draw. This is the third draw in a row for Maniema Union, who are stuck on three points from three games, after conceding points against Les Aigles du Congo (0-0) and AS V.Club (1-1). For DCMP, it is their first draw in four games, including two impressive performances against Bukavu Dawa from South Kivu, winning 3-0 and 4-2, and against Etoile du Kivu from Bukavu. Nevertheless, the Green and Whites of Kinshasa, who got off to a poor start in this national competition with a 1-2 defeat to New JAK (Jeunesse Athlétique de Kinshasa), have a total of 7 points.
