DRC: the National Transport Company moves to electronic ticketing

Kinshasa, April 14^th, 2026 (CPA).- The Transport Company of Congo (Transco) has announced the abolition of cash payments for its services, in favour of an electronic ticketing system,  from May 1^st, 2026, in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), CPA has learned on Tuesday from an administrative source. “We are honoured to announce to you a historic milestone for Transco: the end of cash payments and the introduction of a 100% electronic ticketing system from May 1^st, 2026,” has declared Jeremie Kilubu, General Director of this public transport company.  For the General Director, this initiative is a first in the public transport sector in DRC, aiming to strengthen the modernisation, the transparency and the safety, both for passengers and for staff.  As part of this reform, an awareness campaign will be launched in the coming days to support passengers through this change, he has signified. To this end, Transco has recently brought together comedians artists from Kinshasa to contribute to the popularisation of this measure through messages tailored to local realities.  “Changing the habits of millions of users cannot be imposed by decree. It must be explained, told and experienced,” has signified the company’s CEO, highlighting the role of comedians in the local communication. The introduction of electronic ticketing aims in particular to put an end to problems with cash, reduce queues and improve the smooth running of the service, whilst ensuring a more secure revenue. The official launching of the awareness campaign is scheduled for next week, according to Transco management, which promises to provide all practical information regarding this new system at a later date.
