Kinshasa, May 11th, 2026 (CPA). – The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, arrived on Monday at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda as part of the signing of bilateral agreements between the two countries, CPA learned from diplomatic sources. The Congolese Head of State responded to a personal invitation from his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, who is set to be sworn in on Tuesday in Kampala for a new presidential term.
President Tshisekedi’s presence at the inauguration ceremony reflects the strong diplomatic and fraternal relations between the DRC and Uganda. Félix Tshisekedi is expected to co-chair, alongside President Museveni, the signing ceremony of six (6) draft memoranda of understanding covering several strategic sectors, adopted on Sunday in Kampala by government delegations from both countries. “The signing of six bilateral memoranda of understanding between Uganda and the DRC (…) will further strengthen cooperation in key sectors,” read a post on the official X account of the Ugandan Embassy in the DRC.
These agreements notably cover tourism, information and communication technologies, trade, one-stop border posts, culture, youth affairs, and public administration, as well as search and rescue operations in civil aviation. The meeting takes place in a context marked by growing diplomatic rapprochement between Kinshasa and Kampala, driven by security challenges in eastern DRC, as well as a shared commitment to boosting economic exchanges along their more than 800-kilometre common border.
