Kinshasa, July 6th, 2026 (CPA). – The Governor of Kinshasa reminded provincial lawmakers on Monday of the crucial role played by provincial assemblies in local governance during the opening of the first extraordinary session of the Conference of Presidents of Provincial Assemblies of the Democratic Republic of Congo (COPAP-RDC). « The conference bringing us together today provides an opportunity for dialogue, the exchange of experiences and the assessment of the challenges facing our provincial institutions. As deliberative bodies, provincial assemblies play a vital role in local governance, » said Daniel Bumba, Governor of Kinshasa. « It is therefore imperative that we jointly identify the obstacles hindering the proper functioning of our institutions and propose sustainable solutions to strengthen decentralization and grassroots democracy, » he added. The provincial governor expressed the hope that the conference would strengthen cohesion among the provinces, encourage the pooling of efforts and equip provincial institutions with the resources needed to effectively meet the expectations of the population. On the evening of Sunday, July 5th, Governor Bumba received all the Presidents of the Provincial Assemblies of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They officially presented the program of the conference, in which the governor was scheduled to deliver the keynote address, while also paying him a courtesy visit ahead of the session being held in the Congolese capital from July 6th to 10th, 2026.
