Bunia, November 2nd, 2026 (CPA).- Eighty-five (85) confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease, including 51 deaths and 15 recoveries, have been recorded in the Mambasa health zone, in Ituri province, in the North-East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the zone’s chief medical officer has informed on Monday CPA. “To date, our health zone has recorded 85 confirmed cases, including 51 deaths and 15 recoveries. These cases have been recorded across four health sub-zones. Currently, 19 patients are being treated at the Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC),” Dr Yunga Abedi hs declared.
This epidemiological situation, he has continued, reflects the persistence of the disease in this part of Ituri province, where response teams are continuing their surveillance, care and prevention activities to stop further infections. Dr Yunga has also indicated that the health zone is facing an increase in community reports of deaths, with 18 such reports currently on record, requiring rapid intervention by the dignified and safe burial (DSB) teams.
The chief medical officer of the Mambasa health zone has, on this occasion, emphasised the need to strengthen human, material and logistical resources to improve the response to the various reports and limit the spread of the epidemic.
