Kinshasa, October 13th, 2026 (CPA).- The Health Minister has emphasised on Tuesday at the People’s Palace during a parliamentary oversight session that the Ebola virus disease outbreak is continuing in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a total of 9,066 cases to date.
“The outbreak is continuing and is not over, given the number of affected health zones and the rigorous monitoring of alerts enabling laboratory testing,” said Dr Roger Kamba, responding to a topical question from Senator Clement Muya Muboyayi.
According to him, the positive trend in epidemiological investigations is expected to continue. As of October 11th, 2026, DRC has recorded a cumulative total of 9,066 cases, including 3,081 confirmed cases and 2,289 recoveries.
The daily death toll, meanwhile, fluctuates between 20 and 40. Six provinces are affected, notably Ituri, Nord- Kivu, Haut-Uele, Tshopo and South Ubangi, with a total of 52 health zones affected by the Bundibugyo strain. Among the main challenges to the response are insecurity and high population mobility, as the virus is transmitted through direct contact, the government official noted.
Turning to the issue of financial resources, the minister stated that an initial plan of $242 million had been drawn up, with a total of $360 million mobilised for the response.
In particular, the Congolese government has disbursed $50 million via bank transfer to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), whilst support from partners is channelled through implementing agencies. The minister also referred to the operationalisation of the health provinces. On a separate note, Dr Samuel Roger Kamba addressed the resurgence of monkeypox (Mpox) in the Kasai region, primarily in the Luebo health zone, which accounts for 145 of the 151 recorded cases. Finally, he responded to an oral question with debate raised by Senator Michel Lingepo Molonga concerning the DRC’s public health policy. A lively debate followed the Health Minister’s presentation.
