Fally Ipupa hailed in Brazzaville as a leading figure of African contemporary music

Kinshasa, June 10th, 2026 (CPA).- Congolese singer Fally Ipupa of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was presented on Wednesday in Brazzaville as a leading figure of contemporary African music by a Congolese cultural operator during an online forum bringing together music experts from both sides of the Congo River. “Twenty years of an exceptional and steadily progressing solo career, combined with nearly a decade of apprenticeship and advancement within Quartier Latin, where he climbed every level to become band leader of Koffi Olomidé’s group. And today, whether one likes him or not, Fally Ipupa stands as the leading reference in contemporary African music,” declared Eddy Ngombe Mwèné. According to the Brazzaville-based cultural operator, discipline and consistency are the two main pillars of the Congolese artist’s career. “He is now moving alone at the front of the pack. Time bears witness to trials, but it is also the witness to achievements,” he said, emphasizing the regularity of Fally Ipupa’s work since the beginning of his solo career.

A personal journey built on discipline

The speaker also highlighted the contribution of singer Koffi Olomidé to Fally Ipupa’s artistic development while emphasizing the personal path the latter has forged. “Yes, it would be inappropriate to speak about Fally Ipupa without mentioning his mentor, the man from whom he learned so much and whom he continues to acknowledge with great respect. But we must also recognize his personal journey, his mindset, his organization, his professionalism, his ambitions and his discipline,” he stated.

For Eddy Ngombe Mwèné, the artist’s working method explains the results he has achieved over the years. “His method is different. And it must be acknowledged that today it produces results superior to those of all others, without exception,” he maintained. Before concluding, he called for greater recognition of the artist’s accomplishments. “Before predicting every possible misfortune for him, it would be more honest and more elegant to acknowledge an obvious fact: for several years now, and still today, Fally Ipupa has been the number one figure in our music and one of the greatest artistic references on the African continent,” he affirmed. Recently elevated to the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Leopard and awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in Arts, Sciences and Letters, Fally Ipupa continues his career through acclaimed performances and the promotion of songs from his latest album. Last weekend, the artist staged a series of free public concerts in Kinshasa, attracting large crowds and engaging with his audience on the future prospects of his career. “And if, for once, we simply said to him: Congratulations. Well done. Thank you. Thank you for the work accomplished. Thank you for your discipline. Thank you for your ambition. Thank you for the image you project of our music far beyond our borders. Whether we like it or not,” concluded Eddy Ngombe Mwèné.
