Kinshasa: Minister in charge of Culture commends historical feature film project

Kinshasa, June 10th, 2026 (CPA).- A historical feature film project currently under development by actor and filmmaker Marc Zinga has been commended by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), during a meeting held on Tuesday, June 9th, in Kinshasa, according to an official statement received on Wednesday by CPA. “The Minister in charge of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Yolande Elebe Ma Ndembo, received actor and filmmaker Marc Zinga in audience. Marked by the presence of Ms. Chantal Mulopwe, Special Adviser to the Head of State in charge of Youth, Gender and the Fight against Violence against Women, the meeting is in line with the vision of the Head of State, under the supervision of the Prime Minister, which places culture at the heart of the country’s development, influence and international outreach,” the Ministry’s statement reported.

According to the same source, Marc Zinga was accompanied by his collaborator Francis Kisasa to present the feature film project, an initiative that was strongly encouraged by the Minister, who reaffirmed the institutional support of her ministry to promote Congolese cinema on the international stage.

“It is a work that retraces the rise and early years of Marshal Mobutu, as well as the key forces of that period, including leading figures of decolonization such as Patrice Emery Lumumba, Moïse Tshombe and Étienne Tshisekedi, in order to tell the story of how that generation took the destiny of the country into its own hands,” the statement said. At the end of the meeting, Minister Yolande Elebe Ma Ndembo reaffirmed the government’s determination to make the cultural and creative industries, and cinema in particular, a driving force for the international promotion of the Congolese collective memory.
