Gaza: ‘there must be a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict’ (French Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs)

Kinshasa, July 29th, 2025 (CPA) – France reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is needed,  has said the French Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, ahead of the conference on Palestine, international media have reported on Tuesday.  ‘With this decision, France is reaffirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination in the face of the facts on the ground, the humanitarian catastrophe that is plunging an entire people into despair and the existential threat,’ has declared Jean Noel Barrot, France’s Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs. France has called on the European Union to put pressure on Israel for a two-state solution. With Paris preparing to recognise the state of Palestine, the French minister has defended his country’s general idea of a way out of this endless war.  According to the source, France is somewhat of a lone wolf in this regard, but is facing opposition from the United States and reluctance from other European Union member states. Jean-Noel Barrot has reiterated his country’s commitment to a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: « I know that the European Commission, on behalf of the European Union, must now make our expectations of the Israeli government very clear: lift the financial blockade – the €2 billion that the Israeli government owes to the Palestinian Authority; reject the issue of settlements – the E1 project, in particular the 3,400 homes in the West Bank. This threatens the territorial integrity of the future Palestinian state. » However, US President Donald Trump has called last Monday in favour of increasing aid to the Palestinians, a rare sign of openness between him and Prime Minister Netanyahu, who continues to deny the existence of famine, while anger mounts over the desperate hunger of people who are beginning to starve to death in Gaza.
