Health-DRC: recommendation to build union capacities to revitalize the sector

Kinshasa, March 29th, 2026 (CPA).- The capacity building for trade union representatives in the health sector has been recommended on Saturday by the General Secretary for Health, to revitalise the health system in the Democratic Republic of Congo, during the closing ceremony on Saturday of a workshop held from March 24th to 28th in Kinshasa. “This capacity building is important to revitalise the health sector and the trade union staff,” has declared Body Ilonga, General Secretary for Health. According to him, the challenges facing the sector are enormous and the trade union delegation is a key partner for a peaceful dialogue, in order to provide the population with quality services. “To the Minister in charge of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, I can assure you that you have our support to mobilise resources together so that such initiatives can be repeated in the future,” he has added. This training workshop for trade union representatives in the health sector on leadership, management and trade union entrepreneurship has been opened on March 24th and has been concluded on Saturday March 28th, 2026 at the Nganda Catholic Centre in Kinshasa. Initiated by the Health Sector Trade Union Alliance (ISS), this training has helped to strengthen the capacities of leaders from the various trade union movements that are members of this organisation, particularly in the areas of trade union management and leadership, whilst instilling key concepts of entrepreneurship. The workshop has been culminated in a certificate-awarding ceremony for the participants, in the presence of the General Secretary in charge of public health. ACP/
