Kabila trial: *the courage of the high military court, praised by the former mayor of Beni*

Kinshasa, July 27th, 2025 (CPA).- The proceedings initiated by the High Military Court against the former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Senator for Life Joseph Kabila, which consist of examining certain allegations against him, have been praised by the former mayor of Beni in the east of the country.  ‘I commend the courage of the High Military Court in opening this trial, which in no way interferes with the peace processes initiated in Washington and Doha. This trial puts an end to the cycle of impunity,’ CPA has learned in an exchange.  « There is a principle of law that says no one is above the law. The prosecution of Joseph Kabila reassures us that justice is being served. (…) We must ask ourselves why people are dying in Nord and Sud-Kivu. Who are the perpetrators of these killings and who is behind the plan to balkanise our beloved country? Is it a sin to want to know who masterminded or carried out the crimes committed in the east of the country? I say no. We must discover the truth, » has indicated chille Kapanga. And to continue:  « We must encourage the High Military Court, which is doing its job well. We must not hide behind agreements, saying that this trial will have an impact on the Doha and Washington declarations. No. Justice exists, and the DRC must prove its existence. Mutamba is before the Court of Cassation, and why not see the others too in different courts across the country to answer the charges against them? The Congolese people must know that the DRC is governed by regulations and not by agreements. Justice elevates a nation, » he has concluded.  The High Military Court is initiating legal proceedings against the former Congolese head of state following the lifting of his parliamentary immunity by the upper house of parliament on May 22nd, 2025.  CPA/
