Kasai Central: 40% increase in the price of a liter of fuel in Kananga

Kananga, September 3rd, 2026 (CPA). – A 40% increase in the price of a liter of fuel has been observed in the Kananga market, in Kasai Central, in the center of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), rising from 3,000 to FC 5,000, CPA has learnt on Thursday from a community source.

“The price of a liter of petrol has risen from 3,000 (three thousand) to 5,000 (five thousand) Congolese francs at retailers commonly known as ‘Khadafi’, whilst a liter of diesel is now selling for 3,700 (three thousand seven hundred) instead of 2,700 (two thousand seven hundred) as before ”, has declared Mbulu Kabasele, president of the Katoka municipal committee of motorbike taxi drivers.

He has explained that the low supply to the Kananga market from fuel suppliers coming from Angola via the Ka Cilamba Mbuji border post, in Luiza territory, is the root cause of this situation. According to Mr. Mbulu, this rise in fuel prices has not affected retail prices at the pump, where petrol is sold at FC 5,000 per liter and diesel at FC 3,700 per liter. The upward revision of these petroleum product prices has had a negative impact on motorbike taxi fares in Kananga, where a journey now costs FC 2,000 instead of FC 1,000 between the Tshiamba Diba bus stop, in the Kananga municipality, and the terminus of the Saint Jean de la Croix Catholic parish in Katoka 2, in the municipality of the same name. CPA/
