Kinshasa, March 5th, 2026 (CPA).- The national water distribution authority (Regideso) has announced the upcoming creation of a bottled water production factory in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as part of its diversification strategy, CPA has learned on Thursday from administrative sources. ‘As part of our diversification strategy, we want to minimise the impact of the State in terms of consumption on the company. We are therefore looking for other sources of funding. We will very soon launch a bottled water production factory, which we intend to replicate in several cities across the country,’ has declared David Tshilumba, general director of Regideso. « For Kinshasa, we already have a tender process underway. This means that, if everything proceeds smoothly, within three to four months, the works will be able to start on the city’s largest bottled water production factory. This will incorporate a very different bottle recycling model, as we do not want Regideso bottles to end up in drains throughout the city, » he has added.
Mr Tshilumba has explained that this diversification aims not only to increase the company’s revenues, but also to prevent late payments by the State from impacting the company’s business plan, annual budget and performance. ‘In order for Regideso to become one of the best companies in the sector in Africa, we are going to implement these strategies. Regideso is already making a lot of progress, » he has indicated. According to him, the company’s reputation on the African continent has improved thanks to modernised governance and the digitalisation of services. He has also emphasized that the network’s yield has significantly improved. ‘Elsewhere, losses can reach between 50% and 70%. We are now at 37%. Of course, there is still a lot to be done, as many people still do not have access to drinking water. It is also necessary to put in place a more effective regulatory framework to further improve the situation,’ he has concluded.
