Kinshasa, August 16th, 2026 (CPA). – A sum of seven hundred million Congolese francs (CDF 700,000,000) has been made available to a bank by the provincial executive to enable the payment on Monday of salary arrears owed to administrative staff in the urban divisions of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a statement released on Sunday.
“The president of the inter-union committee for the Kinshasa urban administration, David Luyeye, has held this Sunday August 16th, discussions with the provincial government, represented by the provincial Minister in charge of Finance, Magloire Kabemba, who would like to reassure the social partners that the Kinshasa provincial executive has just made available to Banque Solidaire SA the sum of CDF 700, 000,000 CDF so that it can resume paying the salaries of administrative staff in the various remaining urban divisions from this Monday, August 17th, 2026, with the aim of settling the outstanding salaries for March and April 2026,” it is read in the trade union’s statement.
This resumption of salary payments is intended, According to the same source, to begin settling the arrears for eight months of 2025 and six months of 2026, as agreed in the timetable signed on April 28th, 2026, between the Provincial Government of Kinshasa and the Kinshasa Urban Administration Trade Union Federation. “To this end, the Kinshasa trade union structure has urged managers and staff in the urban divisions who have not yet been paid to report to their respective usual workplaces, in accordance with the previous schedule used by the paying bank,” the document has specified.
The source has also indicated that the plenary meeting of all trade union officials, originally scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, will now take place on Monday, August 17th, 2026, starting at 3.30 pm at the Intersyndicale headquarters, located at Kinshasa City Hall. In the same vein, the Intersyndicale’s document has reminded staff at the offices of the Governor of the City of Kinshasa, provincial ministries, as well as public utilities and other affiliated public services, that the monthly payroll operations for May, carried out by Sofibanque since Wednesday, August 12th 2026, will continue on Monday, August 17th, 2026, for those departments that have not yet been paid. At the same time, the trade union coalition has called on everyone to remain calm whilst it pursues its efforts through lobbying and other legal means recognised by the regulations in force, in the best interests of all.
