Kinshasa: creation of listening and advocacy units for women (Press release)

Kinshasa, Jul 29th, 2025, (CPA).- The creation of local listening and advocacy units for women and young people is one of the main recommendations to come out of a community meeting held in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a press release received on Tuesday by CPA . ‘We recommend the establishment of local listening and advocacy units, particularly for women and young people, in order to document injustices, provide guidance on legal avenues and promote networking,’ the press release states. ‘We recommend the establishment of local listening and advocacy units, particularly for women and young people, in order to document injustices, provide guidance on legal avenues and promote networking among local actors committed to human dignity, with the aim of strengthening collective action at the national level,’ it is read.  The text also proposes institutionalising civic and legal education from primary school onwards, so that every Congolese citizen grows up with a clear awareness of their rights and duties. Among the recommendations is the increase in local community meetings in neighbourhoods, schools, churches and markets to establish a culture of dialogue accessible to all.  ‘The defence of human rights and that of our sovereignty go hand in hand. This is a simple but urgent truth, especially since this national sovereignty is sometimes threatened by inaction, complicit silence or unbalanced agreements,’ the document states. A solemn moment has marked this meeting with the presentation of the Diploma of Excellence in Transformational Leadership to Maître Jean Makasi Mbemba, principal coordinator of the CNF. This distinction, awarded by the World One Foundation, has been presented to him under the moral patronage of His Majesty King Miguel Mbala Benvindo, in recognition of his civic, social and spiritual commitment to the Congo. The event, organised on July 27th, 2025 by the NGO Congo Nation Forte (CNF), has been carried out in collaboration with the Union Congolaise de Kalamu (Congolese Union of Kalamu), a party dear to Professor Daniel Mukoko Samba.  CPA/
