Kinshasa: ‘Immediate’ resumption of road construction work announced in Mont-Ngafula

Kinshasa, May 14th, 2026 (CPA).- The “immediate” resumption of construction work on Avenue du Monastere, located in Kindele, one of the districts of the municipality of Mont-Ngafula, in the west of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been announced on Thursday in a press release consulted on the same day by CPA.  “The burgomaster Severin Lumbu Malamba has intervened to resolve the differences between the General Direction of the Higher Institute of Medical Technology (ISTM-Kinshasa) and the company responsible for the construction of Avenue du Monastere, which serves as the main access and exit route for more than 1,500 households in this part of the municipality. This mediation brought an end to the suspension of the works and led to the announcement of the immediate resumption of work on site,” it is read in the statement from the Mont-Ngafula municipal office. The burgomaster’s intervention, the source has indicated, has followed a call from the General Director of ISTM-Kinshasa, to whom explanations regarding the works on this road, “over three (3) kilometres long”, have been provided. Following this intervention, the press release has continued, he has travelled to the village of Kidima where he resolved a land dispute in which more than 1500 households were facing difficulties accessing the public highway via a passage leading onto the main road. “Following discussions between the various parties, a compromise was reached, allowing the passage to be reopened for the benefit of the residents. To support this solution, the burgomaster has  presented a donation of ten bags of cement for the repair of the boundary wall of the plot in question,” the source has concluded.
