Kinshasa, July 13th, 2026 (CPA).- The Police officers in the city of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), have been arrested on Monday by the Provincial Commissioner for various abuses committed whilst on duty, during a parade held at the annexe of the Martyrs Stadium, according to a press release. “During this parade held on Monday, July 13th, at the annex ground of the Martyrs Stadium, the provincial commissioner has arrested his officers regarding various abuses observed, which were described as acts of indiscipline. He has warned his officers against malpractices that tarnish the image of the police and addressed them on the various abuses committed in the course of their duties,” it is read in the statement from the Provincial Headquarters of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in the city of Kinshasa. According to the statement, the Divisional Commissioner Israel Kantu has highlighted the misconduct of certain officers assigned to traffic control who take it upon themselves to seize vehicles from road users during checks. The document has indicated that the city’s police commander also commends the sense of duty shown by some police officers, whose professionalism and integrity have been deemed exemplary. “As a reward, their names will certainly feature on the next list of promotions,” the source has noted. “We have no right to take the wheel of a private individual’s vehicle in the event of a traffic offence. I am keeping a particularly close eye on the female police officers on duty at the junction of Mont des Arts and Huilerie Avenues. They are using their proximity to the Camp Lufungula impound to intimidate road users. I have ordered that the P2 deal with them,” has said Mr Kantu, as quoted in the document.ACP/
