Kinshasa, April 12th, 2026 (CPA). – Two soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) have died in a train accident in Kimwenza, a neighbourhood in the municipality of Mont-Ngafula, in the west of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to a statement consulted on Saturday by CPA. “The burgomaster Severin Lumbu Malamba has gone to the scene to assess the situation following this incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day. According to the report from the commander in charge of the security post, two members of this FARDC unit have been struck by the urban train at around three (3) o’clock in the morning.
“Their deaths were, unfortunately immediate, ” it is read in the statement from the Mont-Ngafula town hall. According to the document, the Kimbuta neighbourhood, located near Kimwenza railway station, was shaken by this accident, which has resulted in the loss of life of these soldiers, who were tasked to secure the railway line. “Upon arriving at the scene, the burgomaster of Mont-Ngafula has carried out an inspection of a section of track approximately 300 metres long,” the text has added. The statement from the town hall has also indicated that the municipal authority has called on the soldiers to exercise greater vigilance and responsibility in carrying out their duties to defend and secure the country, emphasising that “a momentary lapse in judgement can lead to tragic consequences”.
“The train service was temporarily suspended following this accident,” the source has concluded.
