Lusambo, April 12th, 2026 (CPA).- An election campaign for the candidates for governor and deputy governor has been launched on Saturday by the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in Lusambo, the provincial chief town of Sankuru, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“Today’s date marks the start of the election campaign for the candidates for governor and deputy governor of Sankuru province. I am informing those involved in this race to commence campaign-related activities today, Saturday, April 11th, until Monday, April 13th, 2026,” has declared Fortunat Tshimanga Mbuyi, provincial executive secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Sankuru Province, during an interview. And he circumscribes: “the activities related to the election campaign will take place within the Sankuru Provincial Assembly, among the electors who are the provincial representatives, as it is to them that belong the mandates that have been validated and who constitute the electorate”.
“The election meetings are held freely; the organisers of election events and rallies ensure they run smoothly, particularly with regard to maintaining public order and upholding the law,” he has added. “If necessary, we will request assistance from officers of the Congolese National Police (PNC), given that these instructions form part of the context of the statement signed on April 8th of this year, by the national executive secretary and deputy rapporteur of this democracy support body, setting the date for the election of the new leaders of Sankuru province for Wednesday April 15th, 2026. On the same date, the CENI will publish the provisional results of this election,” he has said.
