Kinshasa, June 24th, 2026 (CPA).- The launch of the first edition of the “Langwa FISH” Festival, aimed at promoting fisheries value chains in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), was announced by the Minister in charge of Fisheries and Livestock during celebrations marking National Fish Day on Wednesday in Kinshasa. “On the occasion of the celebration of the 59th edition of National Fish Day, I am pleased to announce the imminent launch of the first edition of the Langwa FISH Festival,” declared Jean-Pierre Tshimanga, Minister in charge of Fisheries and Livestock. According to him, the event will serve as an opportunity to promote fisheries value chains, with a particular focus on poverty reduction, economic growth and social inclusion. Furthermore, Mr. Tshimanga pointed out that the management of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors remained trapped for decades within an outdated legal framework, despite significant economic, environmental and social changes. He noted that the government’s political will made it possible to modernize the legal framework governing fisheries and aquaculture, bringing it into line with both national and international standards. The minister expressed gratitude to members of Parliament for their commitment to fisheries and aquaculture issues, enabling the country to establish a legal framework capable of unlocking benefits that meet the expectations of the Congolese people. He also thanked development partners, technical and financial institutions, as well as investors who have consistently shown interest in supporting the ministry in achieving the objectives assigned to it by the government.
