North Kivu: night-time and daytime noise pollution banned in Beni

Beni, September 30th, 2025 (CPA).– Noise pollution at night and during the day  from churches and bars has been  banned in Beni, North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, by the mayor of the municipality, according to information obtained on Tuesday from administrative sources.

« We were invited here by the mayor to rule on night-time and daytime noise pollution caused by the activities of bars, churches and music download booths. They cause too much disturbance at night and during the day, and sometimes the security services do not respond to alerts, which results in delayed intervention in certain operations. That is why the urban authority is asking those concerned to significantly reduce the volume of their work tools, » said Théodore Kambale Kayamba, head of the Sokoda department in Beni city and territory. He specified that this measure will enable the security services to be more responsive and attentive to alerts from the population and is based on Decree No. 14/012 of May 8th, 2014 on the regulation of sound production in the DRC.

Although some business owners hide behind the tax they pay, Mr Kambale pointed out that the tax paid does not mean they can disturb others, but rather that it is a licence to work on Congolese soil and the measure already taken must be respected because it is for the benefit of the community.

A one-week deadline has been granted to raise awareness among those involved in the music industry.
