Kinshasa, March 22nd, 2026 (CPA) – The Minister of State in charge of Justice on Sunday instructed the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation to “proceed with the regular and full seizure” of nearly two million US dollars intercepted the same day at N’djili International Airport in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to official correspondence. “It has been brought to my attention, with the utmost seriousness, that an amount of approximately 1,900,000 US dollars (one million nine hundred thousand US dollars) was intercepted this Sunday, March 22, at N’djili International Airport by the competent services, and that intentions of irregular handling, or even sharing of these funds, are being considered, in blatant violation of the laws of the Republic,” wrote Minister of State Guillaume Ngefa. “Such actions are likely to constitute serious criminal offenses, including misappropriation of seized assets, corruption, obstruction of justice, as well as offenses related to money laundering, engaging the individual criminal liability of their perpetrators,” the Keeper of the Seals stressed.
Invoking Article 25 of the law on the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism, Guillaume Ngefa formally ordered, with immediate effect and without exception, Prosecutor General Firmin Mvonde to “proceed with the regular and full seizure of the funds.” This includes the immediate sealing of the said funds, their deposit with the Central Bank of Congo, the drafting of a joint report, and the opening of a judicial investigation to determine the origin of the money and establish criminal responsibilities.
