Resolution 2250: UN Women welcomes the DRC’s commitment to youth

Kinshasa, December 22nd, 2025 (CPA). – The Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) commitment to the ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ agenda was welcomed on Monday in Kinshasa by UN Women during an intergenerational workshop organized on the sidelines of the 10th anniversary of Resolution 2250, celebrated annually on December 9th.  « We commend the actions taken by the Democratic Republic of Congo at the national level and on the ground, in particular the creation of the technical secretariat for Resolution 2250, which is responsible for coordinating the Youth, Peace and Security’ agenda and the adoption of the first-generation national action plan 2250, » said Sylvain Mabika, representative of UN Women in the DRC. ‘On the ground, we have seen many young people emerge and we have been able to develop projects to strengthen the position of young girls in relation to strategic projects linked to the explanations of all decisions,’ he added.

Mr. Mabika highlighted the implementation of the latter in intergenerational dialogues aimed at advancing Resolution 2250 and the joint implementation of the ‘Women, Peace and Security’ and ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ agendas in the DRC. The objective, he said, is to promote active collaboration between women, young people and the authorities in peace and security processes. He pointed out that young people are both victims and key players in the peace building processes in our country, before praising the resilience of young girls and boys who remain mobilized despite the challenges related to the issue of peace and security.

The representative of UN Women in the DRC also encouraged this positive dynamic of collaborative work, which benefits the ministries concerned, youth organizations and United Nations agencies, before thanking them for their involvement in implementing the ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ agenda. ‘We remain available to provide the necessary support for greater involvement of young girls and boys in peace processes,’ he concluded. This intergenerational workshop was organized by the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) coalition, in collaboration with the Salama Women’s Institute (SAWI). ACP/
