Kinshasa, August 30th, 2026 (CPA).- School kits have been distributed on Saturday by the Front of Independents for Christian Democracy, (Front des Independants pour la Democratie Chretienne, Fidec) to parents and pupils who are members of NGOs and organizations affiliated with this political party, at its headquarters in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on the eve of the start of the 2026–2027 school year, according to a source within the organization. “Through this gesture, His Excellency Fifi Masuka, Governor of Lualaba, reaffirms his commitment to education, to young people and to the future of our country (…), and is in line with the vision of President Felix Tshisekedi, who has made free education a key part of his action programme (…) “Dear children, these kits are much more than just school supplies; they are a gesture of hope,” has declared Yvette Agunsi, Deputy Secretary in charge of implementation and mobilization for the Fidec party. “It also aligns with the spirit of ‘Excellentia’ championed by the Distinguished First Lady, Mrs. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, which honors the merit and talent of Congolese youth,” she has said. These kits include school bags and exercise books, as well as other school supplies. Among the hundreds of recipients were children with albinism and those living with disabilities, orphans, and others. Following the handover of the school kits, the recipients have expressed their gratitude to Governor Masuka, the moral authority of the Fidec, for this gesture, and to the President of the Republic for the provision of free education in the country. To encourage these children to strive for excellence, a competition was organized on the spot and the winners received additional prizes.
A day dedicated to prayer for the protection of schoolchildren
The day has also featured a Mass of thanksgiving celebrated by Father Lievin Tumba, to consecrate this school year and all the children under divine protection. “On the way to school or even at school, children can face many dangers. That is why we must ask God to protect them (…) That is the primary intention of this Mass,” has said the celebrant. “Taking the example of Jesus’ parents, who went back to look for their son, you too must look after your children (…) At some point, mum or dad, you must take care of your daughter or son,” has advised the priest, calling for prayers that schools may be places of peace.
He has encouraged the children in their studies.
“You must study to become someone and achieve something. You study to be of use to society, not to become a kuluna. You must have a plan in mind that benefits society.”
