2027 Men’s Basketball World Cup: DRC v Egypt (77–75) and Congo’s first victory in the fourth window

Kinshasa, August 30th, 2026 (CPA).- The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has beaten Egypt 77–75, securing its first victory in three matches, on Sunday at the Dakar Arena in Senegal, on the third and final match day of Group F in the fourth window of the African zone qualifiers for the 2027 Men’s Basketball World Cup, scheduled to take place from August 27th to September 12th in Doha, in Qatar. In this match on the third and final day of Group F in the African qualifiers, it was a neck-and-neck contest from start to finish, with a slight edge for DRC’s national team, the Leopards, who managed, somehow, to come out on top against the tenacious Pharaohs of Egypt, despite the five ties that punctuated the match, including the final one at 75–75 in the fourth and final quarter. Thus, despite this very close contest, DRC Leopards have gained the upper hand over their opponents in the first quarter, leading 22–18. In the second 10-minute period, whilst the Egyptians have scored 21 points, the Congolese have managed 20, bringing the score to 42–39, with DRC still in the lead at half-time. In the third quarter, with the offensive momentum still going strong, the Leopards – who have never let up – have pulled ahead of the Pharaohs, who were kept at bay, to lead 60–53. The fourth and final quarter, which saw the fifth tie of the match at 75–75, has prompted a last-gasp reaction from DRC, who has added two crucial points to their tally, securing a final score of 77–75 with just 6 seconds remaining before the final whistle. Ultimately, the Leopards have finished with their heads held high after three matches, having suffered two opening defeats against Angola’s Palancas Negras (68–100) and Mali’s Eagles (76–101).
