Uvira, July 23rd, 2025 (CPA). – The ceremonies to commemorate the Congolese Genocide are scheduled for August 2nd in Uvira, Sud-Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has learned on Wednesday from the organisers.
« The aim here of organising ceremonies to commemorate Genecost on August 2nd is to unite our voices to demand justice, but also to honour the souls of our brothers and sisters who died unjustly in a war imported for the plundering of our strategic and critical minerals by multinationals using labour from neighbouring countries, in this case Rwanda, » has declared Moise Mussa Useni, activist of the Filimbi RDC citizen movement and Genecost-Uvira focal point.
He has added that for thirty years, the blood of the Congolese people has continued to flow in full view of the international community, despite several peace processes and dialogues that end without lasting results in favour of peace. Organised by the Filimbi RDC citizen movement in collaboration with the Citizen Movement Against Anti-Values (MCLA) and the Civil Society for Sustainable Development (DSCDD), these ceremonies will be held at the Peace Monument in the Kimanga district of Kalundu.
The Genecost is a citizen-led activity organised throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo and the diaspora around the world every August 2nd in memory of thousands of our compatriots massacred in several towns and villages in DRC, especially in the eastern part of the country, it is reported.
