The fight against territorial inequalities discussed at a workshop in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, December 17th, 2025 (CPA).- The fight against territorial inequalities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was discussed on Wednesday by the coordinator of the National Observatory for Territorial Development (ONAT) during a workshop organized in Gombe, a commune in northern Kinshasa. ‘I would like to emphasize that the fight against territorial inequalities cannot be effective without synergy between public institutions, provinces, decentralized territorial entities, civil society, the private sector and technical and financial partners,’ said Jacques Ilunga, ONAT coordinator.

According to Mr. Ilunga, this workshop should therefore be a space for constructive dialogue, sharing experiences and converging points of view. He said that his objective is to submit this document to the critical review of national, sectoral and provincial experts with a view to enriching it and validating its methodology, analysis and recommendations, with a view to its final publication and gradual extension to the entire national territory.

« The DRC is a country with immense potential, but it is also marked by profound territorial disparities. These socio-economic inequalities, often of historical, geographical and structural origin, are now a major obstacle to the harmonious development of our country. They are particularly evident in the significant disparities in access to basic social services, infrastructure, employment, education and economic opportunities between provinces, territories and even local communities, » he said. Mr. Ilunga pointed out that it is in this context that the initiative to map socio-economic inequalities has been launched, adding that this strategic tool aims to provide a clear, objective and scientific reading of the territorial reality of our country.

The workshop to enrich and validate the mapping of socio-economic inequalities in the DRC is being organized on the initiative of the National Observatory for Land Use Planning (Onat). ACP/
