Kinshasa, November 24th, 2025 (CPA) – The price of a net of peppers from the town of Kimpese, in Kongo Central province, remains stable on the markets of Kinshasa, the capital (of the Democratic Republic of Congo), where it is sold for 200,000 Congolese francs, CPA has learned on Monday during a round of visits. ‘The price of a net of peppers remains stable in all markets in Kinshasa; it is sold for 200,000 Congolese francs since October 28th, 2025,’ has declared Caroline Mujinga, an ingredient seller at the Zigida market. According to her, this product, along with other staple foods, has seen stable prices due to its abundance linked to its seasonal nature, but also thanks to the appreciation of the Congolese franc across the country. These include a crate of peppers from Kongo Central, which has remained at FC 90,000; a 25-kilogram net of onions from Boma, which is sold for FC 30,000; a bunch of celery from the Bateke plateau, which is traded at FC 20,000; a bag of cucumbers, which costs FC 170,000; a crate of Kimpese tomatoes, at FC 70,000; a box of 36 simple Jumbo, which is sold for FC 6,000; a carton of tinned tomatoes, brand ‘Lion’, currently at FC 43,000; a bag of cloves imported from China, sold at FC 100,000.
Price increases for certain products
Moreover, she has indicated that during the same period, certain products have experienced price increases due to their scarcity and the poor condition of the agricultural roads connecting production areas to consumption centres. These include: a crate of aubergines, known as ‘Solo’, which was sold at FC 50,000 and now costs FC 75,000; a bunch of chives, commonly known as ‘Ndembi’, from the town of Kimwenza, in the municipality of Mont-Ngafula, sold at FC 60,000 compared to FC 35,000 previously.
