The role of young people in the conservation of natural resources explained in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, June 9th, 2026 (CPA).- The strategic role of young people in the fight against climate change and in the conservation of natural resources has been explained on Monday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during the commemoration of World Environment Day. “Young people play a strategic role in the fight against climate change and in the conservation of natural resources,” has declared Christian Khonde, vice-president of the Congolese National Youth Council.

He has also urged students to increase their involvement in the community and environmental initiatives, emphasising that the active participation of young people is a key driver for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and building a more resilient future for DRC.  “This celebration has brought together a number of stakeholders committed to promoting sustainable development through a programme combining awareness-raising, the exchange of experiences and concrete actions to protect the environment,” he has added. Mr Khonde has, moreover, outlined the mission and ambitions of the Congolese National Youth Council, whilst sharing his personal experience of civic engagement.
