Kinshasa, July 21st, 2025 (CPA).-The women’s fundamental right to participate in peace processes and decision-making on the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been reminded by a political actress at the CPA on Monday in Kinshasa. « There is a special place for women in politics. By nature, women are gifted at managing families, which are, after all, the basic building blocks of a nation. Furthermore, the brain has no gender. Therefore, women have the fundamental right to participate in peace negotiations and decision-making processes that directly affect them, their families and the future of their country, » has declared Anytha Kiyaba Disanka, general secretary of the Congolese Awareness Movement (MCC). ‘The women’s participation in active politics is essential for a more just and inclusive society. Alongside men, women have their place in politics. My choice is to reflect on ideas and projects for society. In the face of dirty tricks in politics, the best strategy is to remain true to one’s values and surround oneself with people one can trust,’ she has added. She has advised women to arm themselves with courage and values in their souls to serve the nation as politicians. « The only advice I can give to women is to know that politics is fluid… It has no colour or shape, but adapts to the soul of the person who practises it. If you are a person of value, your politics will be one of values. I ask women to arm themselves with courage, » has concluded Ms Kayiba. The women’s participation in decision-making in DRC is a complex challenge that still requires efforts at all levels. The government, civil society, international organisations and local communities are campaigning for women’s representation, as recognised by DRC constitution, which enshrines gender equality, but the reality on the ground shows a significant gap between aspirations and practice, particularly in positions of power.
