“TikTok does not contribute to truth-building efforts in the DRC” (Justice Minister)

Kinshasa, March 18th, 2026 (CPA).- The Minister of Justice has drawn the attention of the Chinese Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding the use of TikTok, which he said does not contribute to efforts aimed at building a narrative based on truth, during the opening Wednesday of the first DRC–China Media Forum in Kinshasa. “I believe I had the opportunity to write to the Chinese Ambassador to draw his attention to the use of TikTok in our country, which does not contribute to efforts to build a narrative grounded in truth, transparency and mutual progress,” said Guillaume Ngefa, Minister of State in charge of Justice and Keeper of the Seals.

He made this statement at the opening of the forum held under the theme: “Chinese-style modernization and the development path of the DRC: joint exploration of new win-win trajectories.” Initially launched under the name Douyin in China in 2016 before expanding internationally as TikTok in 2017, the platform is a Chinese mobile application for short video sharing and social networking, founded by Zhang Yiming. It has gained significant popularity among young people aged 15 to 24 through music clips, dance videos, comedy sketches and online challenges.ACP/
