The DRC called on to develop a national action plan for the decade of family farming

Kinshasa, June 13th, 2021 (CPA).- The technical secretary of the National Committee for the Promotion of Family Farming (CNPAF-RDC), Sylvain Ntumba Mutuenzenzabu, deplored the lack of a national action plan for the decade family farming in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He indicated this during an awareness day organized in Kinshasa on Friday for members of the Association of Agricultural Journalists of Congo (AJAC). This awareness concerned United Nations resolution 72/239 which encourages States to develop, improve and implement public policies relating to family farming, and to share their experiences and best practices relating to this. agriculture from 2019 to 2028.

Sylvain Ntumba noted on this subject that family farming involves large communities which feed the world and which have remained poor. States are thus called upon to invest substantial resources to support all households which have only agriculture as an activity. These efforts, he said, will enable rural and urban communities to enjoy a quality of life in dignity, equity and free from hunger and poverty.

The CNPAF technical secretary also presented to the journalists present at this meeting, the vision of the United Nations decade for family farming, which consists of achieving a world with varied, healthy and sustainable food and agricultural systems. According to him, food systems contribute to the well-being of populations without forgetting that family farming is the preferred way to reduce poverty in the world, particularly in the DRC.

AJAC members Sylvain Ntumba recommended that they follow the development of the decade of family farming in the DRC, participate in national and provincial consultations on this topic and call for action, all stakeholders for the achievement of the decade of this national objective in the agricultural sector.
