Climate challenges: President Tshisekedi attends the inauguration of two dams in Angola

Kinshasa, September 6th, 2026 (CPA). – The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, has taken part on Saturday in the inauguration of two dams in Cunene province, in Angola, built in particular to respond to climate challenges, during a working visit at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, according to the Congolese Presidency.

“The two Heads of State have taken part in the inauguration of the Ndúe and Calucuve dams, as well as their distribution channels, which were built to improve access to water and combat the effects of drought in southern Angola,” the Presidency has indicated. The Congolese Head of State’s participation in this ceremony responds to a major challenge for DRC: that of drawing on Angola’s experience in building infrastructure capable to secure access to water and strengthen communities’ resilience in the face of climate challenges.

“This initiative is in line with President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo’s commitment to regional cooperation focused on concrete solutions for the benefit of the populations, the Congolese Presidency has explained. Following the economic agreements recently concluded in Kinshasa, this visit to Cunene thus extends the partnership between DRC and Angola to new strategic areas, including water resource management, climate adaptation and sustainable development.
