DRC: Government calls for coordination with UNHCR to tackle humanitarian challenges

Kinshasa, September 14^th, 2026 (CPA).- On Monday, the Government called for enhanced coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and partners to address humanitarian needs in the Democratic Republic of Congo, whilst respecting the prerogatives of the Congolese State, according to a statement. “The Minister in charge of State for Foreign Affairs called for enhanced coordination between the Government, the UNHCR and partners, in order to link the humanitarian response, stabilisation and development, whilst respecting the prerogatives of the Congolese State,” has read in the statement. According to the source, this appeal was made during a meeting that the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Thérèse Kayikwamba, held with Mr Maurice Azonnankpo, the new representative of the United Nations Refugee Agency in DRC, who had come to present his Letters of Credence. Discussions between the two officials also focused on the situation of internally displaced persons, support for the voluntary, safe and dignified return of Congolese refugees, as well as the humanitarian consequences of the security crisis in eastern of DRC.ACP/
