DRC: Honorary title conferred upon a Congolese professor by a Ugandan university

Beni, February 22^nd, 2026 (CPA) – The honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa has been conferred upon a Congolese professor by a Ugandan university in recognition of his actions in favor of peace and conflict management, according to an academic document from the alma mater consulted Saturday by CPA. “For his work in combating violence, illicit exploitation and looting of natural resources, as well as his involvement in the reduction of armed groups and their community reintegration, we award to Louis Akilimali Kahumbugu Chiririmbo, professor at the University of Martyrs based in Goma, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Peace and Peaceful Conflict Management,” reads the document. Professor Ngire William Donald Osilong, Rector of King of Kings University College in the Ugandan city of Kirindi, commended the Congolese professor’s commitment to social cohesion, community dialogue and stabilization. For his part, Professor Louis Akilimali stated that he remains aware of the enormous challenges facing the country, including “armed conflicts, population displacements, refugees, human rights violations and others.”
