Kinshasa, January 8th, 2026 (CPA). – The price of a tonne of copper, an export product of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has risen by 3.67% internationally, trading at USD 12,366.60 on January 5th, 2026, compared to USD 11,928.00 the previous week, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade’s price lists consulted on Thursday by CPA. ‘The price of a tonne of copper shows an increase on international markets during the period from January 5th to 10th, 2026. This mineral is trading at USD 12,366.60 for the week under review, compared to USD 11,928.00 the previous week, an increase of 3.67% per tonne,’ it is read. It should be noted that the rise, fall and stability of prices for commercial mining, agricultural and forestry products are a result of supply and demand on international markets and the supply chain. These variations have a direct impact on the Congolese economy, which is heavily dependent on raw material exports, particularly in the mining sector. As a reminder, DRC is the leading African producer of copper. The country’s mines have delivered 2.8 million tonnes in 2023, enabling it to rise to the rank of second largest producer in the world.
