Global Gateway-Africa: the transformation of potential into opportunities highlighted in 2026

Kinshasa, January 6th, 2026 (CPA).-The transformation of Africa’s potential into concrete opportunities through sustainable and inclusive investments in 2026, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has been highlighted by the European Union through its ‘Global Gateway’ strategy, CPA has learned on Tuesday from this organisation’s X account. ‘Africa is brimming with energy, talent and potential. Together, Europe and Africa want to transform this potential into concrete opportunities. This is the objective of the Global Gateway strategy: to invest in people, mutual connections and sustainable and inclusive development,’ it is read. Approved by the European Council in December 2025, the list of 256 flagship projects for 2026 will cover strategic sectors such as digital, energy and climate, transport, health, education and research. The strategy has planned to mobilise up to €300 billion in public and private investment between 2021 and 2027, including €150 billion for Africa, to support a sustainable global recovery and create concrete opportunities for partner countries such as DRC. Global Gateway is the European Union’s strategy to develop smart, clean and secure connections in the areas of digital technology, energy and transport, and to strengthen health, education and research systems around the world.
