Kinshasa: claim for additional pay for health sector workers

Kinshasa, January 22nd, 2026 (CPA).- Demonstrations claiming additional pay for health sector workers and managers have been observed on Thursday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has noted. ‘Today, the issue was to demand the payment of doctors’ salaries, which is also the normal or regular salary for some. Compared to the fourth quarter, we have three months unpaid, and today the Ministry in charge of Finance has just confirmed to us that this payment will be made tomorrow,’ has declared Jean Fidele Boyoo, coordinator of the health sector inter-union group.  ‘Starting tomorrow, Friday, we will check with the central bank. We will continue the process this time with the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the budget to integrate this pay into the regular pay, which is the best way to put an end to these claims,’ he has added.  He has indicated that the budget for 2026 has not yet been finalised. The delegation will return next week to the office of Deputy Prime Minister Adolphe Muzitu for further discussions on the rights of the health sector. In addition, on Friday January 23rd, the union delegation will visit the central bank to verify the effective scheduling of this additional pay. ‘We congratulate the healthcare workers and managers for their commitment in claiming their rights and thank those who work in the provinces for believing in our efforts,’ he has concluded.
