Kinshasa: Development works on Étienne Tshisekedi’s mausoleum nearly 90% complete

Kinshasa, November 3rd, 2026 (CPA).- Development works on the mausoleum of Étienne Tshisekedi, erected in N’sele, a municipality in the eastern part of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), are nearly 90% complete as part of preparations for the 10th anniversary of his death, according to a statement from the ruling party consulted by the CPA on Tuesday.

“This joint visit, which forms part of preparations for the commemoration scheduled for February 1st, 2027, marking the tenth anniversary of the death of this prominent figure in Congolese political history, was aimed at assessing the progress of the mausoleum development works, whose completion rate is estimated at nearly 90%,” the statement from the Communications Unit of the Secretary-General of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) said.

According to the same source, the Secretary-General and Acting President of UDPS/Tshisekedi, Augustin Kabuya, conducted this inspection visit to the mausoleum of the founding father of the UDPS, Dr. Étienne Tshisekedi wa Mulumba, alongside Bruno Miteyo, Head of the Civil Household of the Head of State.

“At the end of the visit, the Head of the Civil Household assured that the works should be fully completed by mid-December 2026.

He therefore urged the technical teams to accelerate the pace of implementation in order to meet this deadline and ensure optimal organization of the commemoration,” the statement added.

The statement also noted that he welcomed the joint presence of representatives of Étienne Tshisekedi’s biological family and political family, considering this initiative an expression of their shared determination to preserve and perpetuate his political and ideological legacy.

“The main purpose of this visit was to enable his delegation to personally assess the progress of the works.

This is the first time that UDPS representatives have been involved in monitoring the project since its management was entrusted to the Civil Household of the Head of State,” said Augustin Kabuya, Secretary-General of the UDPS, as quoted in the statement.

He also announced the appointment of Willy Minga, the party’s provincial chairman in Tshangu, to ensure regular monitoring of the works in collaboration with officials from the Civil Household and report back to him on their progress.

According to the statement, the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Étienne Tshisekedi’s death, scheduled for February 1, 2027, is intended to be a moment of unity, reflection and transmission of his legacy to future generations. ACP/
