Kinshasa, July 28th, 2025 (CPA). – Four warehouses at the Kintambo municipal market in the center of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were destroyed in a fire that broke out on Sunday night, according to administrative sources.
« The fire, which destroyed four warehouses, was caused by an electrical short circuit when the power was restored late at night. According to our information, two of these warehouses did not have proper electrical installations, » said Tonton Malengo, deputy administrator of the market. Mr Malengo also reported that part of the roof of a pavilion at the market was also destroyed by the fire, before confirming that there were no fatalities.
Other offices and three large pavilions in the Kintambo municipal market, as well as several warehouses, were spared thanks to the intervention of residents who rushed to the scene to control the fire. The municipal authorities dispatched officers to assess the situation on the ground. Property damage was reported in several municipal markets due to fires caused by short circuits, notably in Selembao, where around 20 commercial buildings were destroyed in a fire at the Lubulu market, in Matete, in Mont-Ngafula and at the UPN.
