Kinshasa, June 8th, 2026 (CPA).- A municipal unit responsible for arms detection and the fight against terrorism was officially installed on Monday by the Assistant Divisional Commissioner of a specialized service during a working session held in Ngaliema Municipality, western Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
“After establishing similar units in almost all provinces of the DRC, it is now Kinshasa City’s turn. We have just held a working session with the Deputy Mayor of Ngaliema Municipality as part of the official installation of the municipal unit responsible for arms detection and the fight against terrorism,” said Assistant Divisional Commissioner Prosper Katumbayi, Permanent Secretary of the National Commission for Disarmament, International Security and the Fight against Terrorism (CONADESI). The CONADESI Permanent Secretary emphasized that the effectiveness of the new structure would largely depend on the support of local authorities. “This structure is expected to work closely with neighbourhood chiefs, street leaders and, where applicable, village or locality chiefs. The personnel assigned to this structure are young people selected through a rigorous process. They have undergone training at various levels to prevent any infiltration, as happened in the past,” Mr. Katumbayi added. For his part, Jules Kabuanga, Deputy Burgomaster of Ngaliema Municipality, welcomed the establishment of the structure and assured CONADESI officials of the municipal authorities’ commitment to cooperate with it.
“We are facing several security challenges, and we believe that this structure will help reduce certain criminal activities. We are therefore pleased to welcome you and assure you of our full cooperation so that your actions produce tangible results on the ground,” he said. Also present at the ceremony, Mucky Mukuna, CONADESI Provincial Coordinator for Kinshasa, appealed for the support of municipal authorities in securing office space for the new structure. “We also request the support of the municipal authority in assisting our teams in carrying out their mission,” he pleaded.
