Kinshasa, December 7th, 2025 (CPA).-Congolese international Yoane Wissa made his return to the field on Saturday after nearly three months out of action, in the match between his new club Newcastle and Burnley (2-1), counting for the 15th day of the Premier League, the English championship.
« I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Over the last 11 weeks, I’ve gotten to know the team and the players. It’s been a long road, but I’m happy at last. When I came on, it gave me Goosebumps. I’m super excited now. It could be a great season because we have so many quality players, » he said after the game, his first ever for Newcastle. The Congolese player did not start the game, coming on in the 74th minute to bring speed and power to his wing, helping his team maintain their 2-1 victory.
Injured since September, Wissa was sidelined from his team’s bench, even missing out on selection for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco with the DR Congo Leopards, which kicks off in a few days. His return is good news for both Newcastle and the Congolese national team, for whom he was due to play in March in Mexico against the winner of Jamaica vs. New Caledonia in the intercontinental play-offs for the 2026 Canada-Mexico-United States World Cup qualifiers.
