Mbanza-Ngungu: consumption of unsafe water deplored in Mbanza-Ngungu (expert)

Mbanza-Ngungu, March 11th, 2026 (CPA).- The consumption of unsafe water in certain neighbourhoods of Mbanza-Ngungu in Kongo Central (south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo) has been deplored by a water economics expert during his visit to these areas on Wednesday. ‘Alternative water sources such as wells, springs and others that are unprotected can cause several diseases, unlike the water treated and distributed by Regideso, which is generally of good quality,’ has declared Pascal Kazwenga, water economics expert. ‘Children and elderly people living in these neighbourhoods are often victims of diarrhoea, typhoid fever, cholera, hepatitis and other waterborne diseases,’ he has added.

Kazwenga has indicated that Regideso’s drinking water access is only at 26% before criticising the dilapidated infrastructure, lack of investment and flooding. ‘This situation forces residents to consume unsafe water, causing major health risks. The neighbourhoods of Loma, Revolution, Kimuingu, Mpete, Savelo, as well as the Kumbi cells and part of Christ-droit suffer from this lack of drinking water,’ he has explained.
