Kinshasa, September 9th, 2026 (CPA).- Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening nuclear security and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Vienna, the Austrian capital, during the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Moroccan Press Agency reported on Wednesday. “Morocco reaffirms its commitment to contributing to the strengthening of the international nuclear security regime and to supporting the central role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in promoting the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology,” has declared Azzeddine Farhane, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to international organisations in Vienna. Azzeddine Farhane welcomed the continued implementation of the IAEA’s Nuclear Security Plan, highlighting the Agency’s central role in strengthening global nuclear security and in protecting against the diversion or misuse of nuclear and other radioactive materials. “Member States’ commitment to developing the future Nuclear Security Plan must reflect our collective commitment to preserving and strengthening the international nuclear security regime,” he has emphasised. He has also highlighted the Kingdom’s contribution to the IAEA’s efforts in this area, noting in particular the organisation in Morocco, in October 2025, of a national workshop on nuclear security measures for major public events, as well as the holding, in February 2026, of a regional workshop on the development of regulations relating to cyber security. Morocco, in coordination with the IAEA, has organised a workshop on the development of human resources and training programmes in the field of nuclear security, it is recalled.
