Neighborhood leaders urged to prevent unrest at the end of state exams

Kisangani, July 28th, 2025(CPA).- Neighborhood leaders  in a municipality were called upon during a parade on Monday to raise awareness among school principals to prevent student unrest at the end of the state exams in Kinsangani (Tshopo) in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

« We invite neighborhood leaders to raise awareness among school administrators not to let students demonstrate in the streets on the last day of the state exams. Often at the end of the exam on the last day, some tear their uniforms, while others ride up to five (5) people on the same motorbike, » said Martin Luther Lituambela, deputy mayor of the commune of Makiso. The minimum fine that will be imposed on those who refuse to comply is one million (1,000,000) Congolese francs, warned the municipal authority, adding that the Hawaii bar, the favorite haunt of final-year students in such circumstances, will be closed.

‘I have already closed the Hawaii bar three times because of noise pollution and disorderly conduct,’ revealed Martin Luther Lituambela. He recalled that primary school finalists were arrested for the same reasons at the end of the Enafep exams. Students who chose to study in the mansions were expelled because of the deliberate maintenance of promiscuity. ‘Some students were expelled to mansions in the medical district where, after investigation, we found that female students and their male colleagues were spending the night in the same bed, claiming that they were studying together,’ lamented the deputy mayor of Makiso. He warned parents that on the last day of the state exams, there would be no public celebrations in the municipality of Makiso, which is home to the city center. Arrangements have been made with the security services to prevent the usual disturbances.
