Persistent Violence in Eastern Congo: MP Mobilizes in France

Kinshasa, February 22nd, 2026 (CPA) – A Congolese national deputy called for the establishment of binding mechanisms to end ongoing violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during a conference held Sunday in Paris, France, CPA learned from an associative source. “Impunity remains one of the main obstacles to restoring lasting peace in eastern DRC. It is essential to establish credible and binding mechanisms capable of ending this cycle of violence,” declared Alfred Dibandi, elected representative of the Libenge constituency in northwestern DRC, during the conference organized by student bodies and partner organizations. “The recurrent violence affecting populations in the East reflects political, security, and international responsibilities that maintain persistent instability in this region,” he added. The deputy advocated for a response at the sub-regional and international levels to this situation, which has lasted for decades and caused thousands of deaths and displaced persons. “A coordinated response at the sub-regional and international levels, alongside support for institutions resulting from the most recent democratic elections in the DRC, remains essential to restore peace,” he emphasized. “Only a structured approach, combining institutional reforms, security cooperation, and sustained diplomatic engagement, will achieve lasting stabilization of the Great Lakes region,” stressed Mr. Dibandi.

The conference was organized by political science student organizations, higher normal schools, and several business schools, in partnership with the Institute for Prospective and Security in Europe (IPSE) and the organization *Les Justes du Congo*.(  The Righteous Among the Nations of the Congo). The activity was part of awareness initiatives aimed at mobilizing academic circles on peace and security issues in Central Africa, particularly in eastern DRC, which continues to face recurrent armed violence, especially from the Rwandan armed coalition and M23-AFC aggression.
