Matadi, December 17th, 2025 (CPA).– Urgent measures to secure areas targeted by armed attacks in the territory of Songololo were proposed on Wednesday by a provincial elected representative at the plenary session of the Provincial Assembly of Kongo Central in Matadi, the provincial capital in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). « Health facilities, cement factories and entire villages are being attacked by armed men without any strong measures being taken (…) I respectfully but firmly request the immediate dispatch of official correspondence to the provincial Minister of the Interior, the implementation of urgent measures to secure the targeted areas, and the reinforcement of police and military patrols around hospitals, cement factories and strategic roads to put an end to these acts, » said MP Gilbert Salabiaku before his fellow MPs. In his motion for information, the Songololo MP referred to several recent incidents, including an attack on a health centre and general hospital in Sonapangu and an incursion into the PPC Barnet cement factory, where valuable goods were stolen and an agent was seriously injured.
« Targeted twice in a few days, the Songololo health zone has seen its facilities attacked, its patients traumatized and its property stolen. After the Baptist Community Hospital (CBCO), it was the Sonapangu General Hospital that was targeted, with a pharmacy ransacked, staff shocked and funds stolen. This close targeting of medical facilities reveals a worrying level of audacity and criminal organization, » noted Mr. Salabiaku. The President of the Provincial Assembly, Victor Nsuami, welcomed the relevance of this motion and promised that the bureau would diligently examine the recommendations made with a view to forwarding them to the competent authorities.
