Washington agreements presented as a path to lasting peace in the DRC

Kinshasa, December 7th, 2025 (CPA).- The peace agreements signed last Thursday in Washington, D.C., were presented as a path to lasting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a discussion on Sunday with a female politician.

“These historic agreements mark an important step in the search for a lasting solution to the security and humanitarian crisis in eastern DRC. They finally pave the way for a peaceful future for millions of Congolese who have long suffered,” said National Deputy Angélique Milemba, national president of the “National Alliance for Solidarity in Congo” (ANS). She stressed that the people of the east have suffered too long from violence and abuses, recalling the high expectations of local communities. “The Congolese people have suffered too long from violence in the east; today, they hope that this process will truly put an end to hostilities,” she added. The politician encouraged the population to take ownership of the peace process and to support institutional efforts to stabilize the country. “I call on all Congolese to remain vigilant and united in supporting these agreements and consolidating lasting peace in our country,” she added. Ms. Milemba also recommended improving the efficiency of public enterprises, believing that their sound management would contribute to rebuilding trust and national development. She concluded by urging the Congolese people to maintain cohesion in order to consolidate peace throughout the country.
